Must be a "blonde" day

We all need a good laugh once in a while. I think this is funny:

A blonde teenager, wanting to earn some extra money for the summer, decided to hire herself out as a "handy-woman" and started canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighborhood. She went to the front door of the first house, and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do.
"Well, I guess I could use somebody to paint my porch," he said, "How much will you charge me?"
Delighted, the girl quickly responded, "How about $50?"
The man agreed and told her the paint brushes and everything she would need were in the garage. The man's wife hearing this conversation said to her husband, "Does she realize our porch goes ALL the way around the house?" He replied, "That's a bit cynical, isn't it?" The wife replied, "You're right. I guess I'm starting to believe all those dumb blonde jokes we've been getting by email lately."
Later, the blonde teenager came to the door to collect her money. "You're finished already?" the startled husband asked. "Yes," she replied, "And, I even had paint left over so I gave it two coats."
Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the $50 and handed it to her along with a $10 tip.
"And by the way," the blonde teenager added, "It's not a Porch, it's a Lexus."

National Debt and China

There's much angst about the massive debt we owe China, and rightly so. In October 2008 we owed China $684.1 billions. By October 2010 we owed China $906.8 billions. That's a 32.6% increase in only two years. Our total debt to all debtor nations is $4.312 trillions. Why the sudden increase in our debt obligations? Spending and more spending. Where does it stop? Who got all those $billions of stimulus giveaways? What was the results? Shouldn't there be an accounting of who got the money and what they did with it? And, what do we do if China decides to call in our debt? Does China owe us anything? Didn't we save their butts in WW II? I'm sure when the war turned in our favor and we were hammering the Japan homeland they would have been happy to make a deal to end the war where they would give up the Philippines and their conquests in the South Pacific and we would give them China. Didn't we give money to China after the war until the Communists took over? Beginning with Nixon's trip to China and perpetrated by the succeeding administrations didn't we give China favorable trade agreements? Haven't we also since Clinton given China industrial, defense, and space technology? How much did China pay us for all that? Where is the equity? But, then my old dear departed father always said, "Life isn't meant to be fair."

Civility?

Civility. Now that's a word I haven't heard much until just very recently. Why all of a sudden are we to be civil? Is civility akin to political correctness? Is it yet another way to control our speech? And, just what constitutes civility? Am I uncivil if I disagree with you? Are you uncivil if you disagree with me? Is civility yet another liberal ploy to misdirect the political discourse? And, just who is to be the Civility Police? And, what is the penalty for being uncivil?

Firearms and Congressional Sanity

In the wake of the Tucson shootings the liberals are raising a hew and cry to once again ban firearms. Even now, less than a week after, there is a movement in Congress to pass legislation to outlaw the possession of a firearm within one thousand feet of a congress person and/or federal official. I wonder how they propose to enforce such a law. I have a Texas permit to carry a concealed firearm. How am I to know where federal officials may or may not be? Wouldn't it make just as much sense to have a law that Congress persons and federal officials are not allowed to be within a thousand feet of a person carrying a legal firearm? I oft times wonder about the sanity of our law makers.

A Dear Friend

Today was a very sad day. The daughter of a dear friend called today to tell me her father passed away Tuesday night, January 4th. I had a very tough time trying to hold my emotions in check. He was a co-woker when we lived in Salt Lake City. He and his wife were dear friends . My wife and I spent many enjoyable and memorable times with them. They were Mormans and salt of the earth people. He and I hunted the western slopes of the Unita Mountains and we fished the waters of the Upper Weber River. He and I had an excellent relationship. We spent hours together and had time to talk about many things religious, philosophical, sociological, and political. I learned to see the world in a more meaningful light with a tolerance and respect for other viewpoints. His wife passed away a few years ago. My wife and I miss them dearly. May God bless both of them and their family.

Compromise?

Compromise. That's a word I haven't heard a Democrat utter the last two years until after the November 2010 elections. Now, it's the operative word. It seems it is uttered every other word when a Democrat opens his mouth. Compromise on what? What is there to compromise? Spending? Taxes? Regulation? Border security? Obamacare? What's disconcerting and fearful is Republicans more and more are buying into compromise with the Democrats. Compromise to a Democrat means: "You agree with me!" Did the Republican establishment not get the message last November? Do Republicans have the intestinal fortitude (guts) to stand up to the Democrats and not wilt? I fear not! This is cause for a call to arms by the Tea Party to once again get in the fight. Where is Paul Revere?
