Firearms and Congressional Sanity

In the wake of the Tucson shootings the liberals are raising a hew and cry to once again ban firearms. Even now, less than a week after, there is a movement in Congress to pass legislation to outlaw the possession of a firearm within one thousand feet of a congress person and/or federal official. I wonder how they propose to enforce such a law. I have a Texas permit to carry a concealed firearm. How am I to know where federal officials may or may not be? Wouldn't it make just as much sense to have a law that Congress persons and federal officials are not allowed to be within a thousand feet of a person carrying a legal firearm? I oft times wonder about the sanity of our law makers.
