President-Elect Trump

I’ve had my doubts and reservations about Trump.  I mostly voted for him as a vote against Hillary, but now think it was a good choice.  I was leery of him from the git-go because I couldn’t figure him out.  I first thought he was entering the fray to promote his reality show and brand.  I then began to think he was a Trojan Horse for the Democrats.  I then began to think he was doing it just for a lark.  I then began to think he actually believed his own rhetoric.  I then began believe by election time that he was the right guy for the job.  At first I disliked his outrageous comments and combative attitudes, but have come to believe they were by design.  Had he been “Mr.  Nice Guy” like the lovable reasonable Ben Carson the Democrats and mass media would have eviscerated him, and we'd have been voting for Jeb.  Sometimes you have to be outrageous to get peoples’ attention.   I came to like the way he would stand his ground and not back down in the face of criticism and rebuke.

My fervent hope now is he will make the transition from candidate to president.  That he will surround himself with wise and capable associates and advisors and act accordingly.  I've long thought:  "The man doesn't make the office, the office makes the man."  Time will tell.

2016 Presidential Election

Its a great day!  Trump is elected, and I hear from a dear friend in Poland.  She gives an European perspective on our election results.

She emailed:  “The best news this morning:  Donald Trump beats Hillary Clinton!  Even if he is not the best Republican candidate being a complete freshman in politics, the perspective of Hillary Clinton’s presidency in my opinion was just like a nightmare, also for the rest of the world.  I wish the US truly shows the world how to handle current issues.  Maybe Trump’s presidency will also change the Republican Party as it was during Ronald Reagan time or what I envisage from the message by Ron Paul, to become more libertarian.  I followed the campaign mostly with the Wall Street journal."

My reply:  "Many of us share your opinion of Hillary and her ilk.  She was not elected because she is a woman (as many would have you believe), but because of her Saul Alinsky leanings and corruption.  The two are like two peas in a pod.  If Trump can do just half of what he promises he’ll be a rousing success though he is a political neophyte.  Our fervent hope is he will surround himself with wise associates and advisers, unlike Obama who surrounds himself with ideologues, aka Valerie Jarrett, et al.  The Wall Street Journal and the Investor’s Business Daily are probably the only two major newspapers with a semblance of impartiality.  All the others are tinted pink.  I seldom read a newspaper anymore.  I mostly watch FoxNews Channel and FoxBusiness Channel for my news.”

Hopefully, its a new day in America if only the Republicans can find their way to accept Trump’s agenda, and the Democrats be damned.

Trump landslide?

I'm beginning to think Trump will win in a landslide.

My shade tree Mexican mechanic said Trump will win. . . . big time.  The Mexicans that put a new roof on my house say Trump will win "muy grande".  My Mexican friend at the gym says Trump will win "no problem".  Pat Caddell, the Democrat pollster from the Carter/Reagan race, says on TV the Clinton/Trump race looks more and more like 1980 when Reagan won in a landslide.  Trump is everywhere.  Hillary is barely visible.. . . inundated by scandal and corruption.

So, I'll be surprised and eat crow if by hook and crook Hillary wins.
