The Poor

The poor have been with us since biblical times.  A tenet of Christianity is charity for the poor.  Its been said that God surely must love the poor because he made so many of them.  With the visit of the Pope to the United States much has been said about care of the poor.

Charity is a virtue.  I am for helping the poor.  I've been poor.  I'm a child of the Great Depression and I know poverty.  But, a question that begs for an answer is when does one cease to be poor and become a leech?

Immigration - Syrian Refugees or Invaders? Militarize Them

All immigration, legal and illegal, should be halted immediately until such time as we (our government) can get a handle on the situation and control it so it is orderly, legal, and protects the security of the United States.  No need to hold one's breath.  Not very likely to happen.

So, if we are compelled by our Muslim sympathizing president to accept thousands of so-called Syrian refugees then we (the government) should militarize all those young (18-32 years) male Syrians, or whoever they are, refugees that want to come here.  Since they are compelled to come here then conscript (draft) them into a U.S. Army special unit (preferably in an off-shore location) for a minimum of three years.  (Conscription of foreigners into the army is not new.  My WW II training platoon had two foreigners drafted into the army.)  Train them like Special Forces troops.  If they can't "hack" it then ship them back to the Middle East.  Those that "hack" it get to stay here providing they take a pledge of allegiance to the United States, the Constitution, and commit to a minimum of six years enlistment in the U.S. Army Reserves so authorities can keep track of them.  At the end of that period if they meet all other qualifications then they can then apply for citizenship, otherwise ship them back home wherever that is.  And, if we  have to put "boots-on-the-ground" to fight in Syria or any other place in that part of the world, then let it be them that fight to free their country from tyranny.

We simply can not allow the United States to be invaded by all manner of  misfits from around the world, especially those that seek to kill us and "fundamentally transform" our nation into something else.  Our form of government has served us well for over two hundred years.  No need to substitute something else in it's place.  There is a process for peaceful and legal change when needed.

Republican Spineless Leadership

It's ironic!

When the Democrats were the majority in Congress Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi were in control.  The typical Republican refrain was we can't do anything because we are in the minority.  So, we gave them the majority in Congress, both the House and the Senate.  And, from all appearances Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are still in control.  Now, the typical Republican refrain is we can't do anything because we don't have the presidency, Obama will just veto what we pass.

Horse pucky.  What the Republicans need is leadership with some spine and quit the whining.

Which Laws Apply?

Numerous sanctuary cities all over the national landscape ignore and violate federal immigration laws with impunity, yet a little county clerk in Kentucky has to comply with federal law and issue a same-sex marriage license though it violates her religious beliefs.

Either we have laws, or we don't have laws.  Which is it?
