GUN STUPIDITY

A white police officer shoots and kills a 16-year old black girl attempting to stab a 13-year old black girl.  It’s incredible how many high profile sports, entertainment, political and news media figures suddenly become experts on how the police officer should have acted to avoid killing the knife wielding girl.  Some said he could have fired a warning shot.  Others said he could have shot the assailant in the leg.  How stupid can these people be?  First, a warning shot doesn’t stop the charge of a knife wielding assailant intent on stabbing the victim.  Besides the warning shot could hit some innocent person.  Second, some said to shoot the girl in  the leg and not kill her.  A leg is a small target.  Besides it’s usually a moving target which makes it even more difficult to hit.  Any stray bullets could hit some innocent person, or missed shots could ricky-shay off the sidewalk or driveway and hit some innocent person.  Hitting a determined assailant in the leg or arm doesn’t necessarily stop or slow them down.

Years ago when my wife first started her business she had a small open rented space in a strip shopping mall next to a dry cleaning establishment that also did custom tailoring.  My wife had been there about a month.  I was there on a Saturday to help.  We suddenly heard a gun  shot.  We cautiously looked out the window just in time to see a man stagger and fall in front of the shop bleeding profusely.  My wife quickly called 911.  The police were there in about three minutes.  The guy was dead.  The lady worker in the dry cleaners was shot one time in the head. She was stunned but still alive.  The police immediately began to save her.  EMS was there in a few minutes to take over and take her to the hospital.  What had happened?  An  ex-husband entered the cleaner shop and demanded his ex-wife give him her paycheck.  She refused.  A tussle ensued to get the check.  He shot her in the head.  She grabbed a handy pair of  large tailor scissors and stabbed him in the neck severing his aorta artery.  Over time we checked with the clearers people about her condition.  She survived and recovered but was partially crippled for life due to brain damage. The point being that if you shoot someone they don’t necessarily die immediately and can sometimes retaliate with dire consequences.  

 THE POLITICAL NARRATIVE

Can’t we stop the political narrative in the public square, push it aside and do what is best for all?  Everything anymore has to fit some political narrative pro and con, else it’s disingenuously cast aside. It’s inconceivable   those in positions of  influence and power (political, social, business) are more interested in advocating for some preconcieved political or social need that fits the “proper” narrative instead of taking a deep breath and thinking what’s best for all and proceed accordingly. The disquieting question is who defines “best”?

 WHAT’s A TRILLON$?

When I was much younger a $100 was a lot of money.  $1,000 was rich.  $10,000 was wealth.  $100,000 was extreme wealth beyond imagination.  Over the years the value of money became to mean less and less.  Our government ceased to talk about  thousand$ of dollars and spoke of million$ of dollars.  Some senator long ago said, “A million here and a million there and pretty soon you’re talking real money.” A few years later our government began to deal in billion$.  Today our government now not only deals in trillion$ of dollars, they deal in multi-trillion$ of dollars beyond human comprehension   What’s next?  Zillion$ of dollars.  Prices and cost of living go up accordingly.  I foresee the day soon a loaf of bread will cost $10.

 RACIST

I remember the first time I heard the word “racist” that had any meaning to me.  I had always thought the word “race” meant a running contest to see who was the fastest.  It was 1949 when I was in college on the GI Bill at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State).  The major universities were beginning to integrate per some federal government edict.  They began by slowly integrating at the graduate student level.  Several black graduate students were enrolled at Oklahoma A&M.  Though I was still an undergraduate I was taking a graduate class.  A black guy was in the class.  No problem.  Then, it was St. Patrick’s Day.  Everyone was wearing green except the black guy.  I asked him why he wasn’t wearing green.  He replied he wasn’t Irish.  I said, “Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.”  He kind of puffed up and said. “That’s racist.”  Dah!

 NEW WORDS

    Since the democrat liberals/socialists have a propensity for adding new words and/or twisting the meaning of existing words,  I have two new words to add to the lexicon:  dumidity (stupid but dumb) and smidity (stupid but smart). We don’t have to worry much about the dumidity ones.  It’s the smidity ones we have to really worry about.  They’re dangerous, not only to us, but also to themselves, they’re stupid enough not to know it.
