Our first really cold blast this fall. Yesterday the high temperature was 80 degrees. A cold front blew through about six o'clock this morning. We got 3/10 ths of an inch of rain. The daytime high today was 41 degrees. It is now 39 and expected to fall to about 30 over night. The wind came howling out of the northwest at 30 mph with gust even higher. Yesterday I moved all the potted plants inside the garage and barn. I covered the other cold sensitive inground plants with plastic. The cows stayed close to the south side of the barn most of the day to keep out of the wind as much as they could. I opened the corrals and fed them under the loafing sheds which offered a little shelter from the wind. Had a little trouble herding them back out to the east pasture. They didn't much want to get out from under the sheds. It cleared late this afternoon but continues to be windy.

David Karesh, Warren Jeffs and Islamic Imams
Now I don't necessarily agree with David Karesh (Waco) nor Warren Jeffs (polygynous sect leader), but if the government authorities can raid, arrest and indict the leaders of religious sects such as those of Karesh and Jeffs for their religious views then why by the same logic can't federal authorities raid, arrest and indict Islamic Imams for their religious views when they preach violence and terrosism against other religions, death to infidels (Jews and Christians), and advocate the overthrow of the government of the United States of America?

Who is Nancy Pelosi?
I went shopping today with my wife. We went to Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and HEB Super Market. As my wife dutifully shopped I sauntered about asking total strangers, "Do you know Nancy Pelosi?" to which I mostly got a flat-out "No", and a few blank stares. I did not keep count but asked about twenty people. Not a single one knew who Nancy Pelosi is. I then asked, "Do you know who Britney Spears is?" Every last one of them said, "Yes". A few asked, "Who is Nancy Pelosi?" When I told them she was just elected as the first woman Speaker of the House in Congress they replied, "Oh, okay". So, who is Nancy Pelosi? What does this tell us? Hmmm?

This 'n That
A cold front blew through day before yesterday. Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Blew leaves and tree branches everywhere. Have a clean up to do. . . . Clear and dry. Need a good rain. . . . Replaced a sprinkler head in the front yard. . . . When the wife and I drove in the other night from a dinner out eight deer ran from the yard across the driveway in the headlights over and through the fence into the west pasture. . . . I'm trying to get two large poinsettias to turn red before Christmas. They have to have at least twelve hours of total darkness each day. I set them in the dry-room in the barn each night and bring them outside the next morning for twelve hours of daylight. Its been a week. No sign of red. I think it takes about a month or so. . . . Our son, his wife and our granddaughter are coming for Thanksgiving. Cleaning up in the garage to get the electric deep-fryer out and cook the turkey in hot peanut oil. We've done this before. Sure is good eating. . . . Went to Bryan-College Station yesterday. Brunch at IHOP. Shopping at Lobby-Hobby and SAM's. . . . Put out a large roll of hay for the cows. They are content. The new calves are doing fine. Spike, the bull, is--well, he is a bull.

Islamic Fascism and Political Correctness
Glenn Beck, the radio talk-show host, has a documentary program on CNN Headline News about the Islamic Fascism threat we Americans face from the Arabs. It is an excellent program about the hatred taught in the Middle East for the Jews and Americans. He has several expert spokespersons appear on the program. One such expert is Brigitte Gabriel author of the book, "Because They Hate Us". She is Lebanese but now an American citizen. She makes some pertinent observations and points, one of which follows:
"Political correctness is killing us. Political correctness is a disease that is killing the West. It is the apathy by which the Muslims are killing us one by one. We have got to fill in the garbage where it belongs. People have to develop the backbone to stand up and identify the enemy because the West is right now plagued with Islamic Fascism, a disease worse than cancer that is going to kill our body unless we fight it and kill it first. And, unless people come to that understanding we hopefully will not have to suffer a nuclear attack on American soil nor on British soil or any other westernized nation. But, this is where we are heading and the media is the first front in getting the message to the American public and it is their duty to do that".

Revenge of the Fire Ants
Wow! Did the fire ants ever get their revenge on me. They swarmed my left arm from my wrist to just above my elbow leaving no less than a hundred sting whelps.
Last Sunday was a beautiful day with a few fluffy white clouds and barely a wisp of wind. It was an ideal time to burn a brush pile I had stacked around an old unwanted tree stump. I set fire to the brush and stood by to keep an eye on it. As it burned down I decided to pick up some old fallen limbs laying about and throw them on the fire. I had carried several arm loads without incident. Then, I picked up an old limb from the ground, cradled it on my bare left forearm and bent over to pick up another. I suddenly felt a stinging sensation. I looked at my arm. It was swarming with a mass of several hundred fire ants, all intent on stinging me. I dropped the piece of tree limb and frantically brushed off the ants, but not before a hundred or so had already stung me.
I quickly went to the house and soused my left arm with Clorox. The ant venom is acid and the Clorox is basic. It neutralized a lot of the stings but still left me with about a hundred red whelps on my arm. The next day day about half of them formed into little pus pistulas. My arm looks a mess and is begining to itch.
Don't mess with fire ants.

Why the Republicans Lost
The Republicans lost because they are wimps. They forgot who "brung 'em" to the dance. They did not listen to the folks back home. They became like a bunch of yapping Chihuahua dogs while the Democrats were like Pit Bulls. Attack. Attack. Attack. When the Pit Bulls came around all the Chihuahuas did was yap and nervously pee on the carpet. To quote a famous Democrat (Truman): "If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen!"

WAR
WAR IS MEAN, NASTY and BRUTAL. You break things and kill people. There is no such thing as a "nice" (politically correct) war. There are only two options - win or loose. If you go to war you better go with the intent to win, else you loose and that is not pleasant. You have to break more things and kill more people than your enemy. Its kind of like swimming. If you are afraid of the water or don't like to get wet don't go swimming. Sticking your toe in the water is no way to swim or fight a war. You have to have complete loyalty and cooperation from your side to win. There is no such thing as a successful half war, i.e. half the people support the war and half the people don't. You will loose, or at best will have to "redeploy" (retreat, cut 'n run, quit) and loose any advantage you may have had. You will be a looser in the eyes of the world.
So, if you go to war you must go all out to win. Else you loose. And, my friends, beware. The radical Muslim Jihadists are intent on winning.
