California’s population is almost 5 times New York’s population. California’s homeless are almost twice New York’s. Yet, New York’s number of COVID-19 cases is almost 8 times California’s.  Why? California’s homeless mostly live on the streets and sleep in tents crowded on the sidewalks. A breeding ground for contagious diseases.  Yet California has significantly (8 times) fewer COVID-19 cases.

Something doesn’t seem right. Is California under reporting?  Is New York over reporting.  Is it better to be outside instead of sheltered in place (quarantined) in high rise apartment buildings?  Are crowded subways more contagious than individual automobiles?  Is it more bureaucratic bungling than anything else.  Will we ever know?  Probably not.

STATISTICS and BIKINIS

We’re bombarded daily with all manner of statistics about this COVID-19 (Chinese) Virus. We hear experts pontificate with charts and graphs to explain their thinking. They talk about curves that spike, and curves that flatten. They tell us so many deaths per thousands for here and there and any other place they can dig up.  The political types use these statistics to spread fear, to shut down the entire country with “shelter-in-place” directives.  They spend $trillions to pay millions of workers more than they can make working.  In the process they allocate $millions for their pet projects.  All based on “solid facts” from statistical models and other medium that change daily. 

Here’s my take: “Statistics are like a bikini.  What they reveal is interesting, but what they cover up is crucial”.  It’s a reckless mad dash into the unknown.  We need a full dosage of common sense.  Not much chance.  It’s about as rare as the Dodo Bird.

CORONAVIRUS SHUT DOWN  and POLIO

I think this entire coronavirus shut down is contrived. Something nefarious here smells fishy.  I think Trump let himself be sucked in by egg-head crystal ball gazing liberal “experts”.  I’m 92 years old.  I’ve seen our country go through several national emergencies.  Never have I seen the entire country shut down for any reason.  Many had polio and died or were crippled.  Many had polio and survived.  The country lived through it without a shutdown.

It originally was called infantile paralysis because we didn’t  know what it was. That was because they (the experts of the day) didn’t know either and called it infantile to gain greater popular support for fund raising.

Infantile paralysis knew no bounds.  Children and adults alike suffered. President Roosevelt had it in 1921 after he was an adult. He survived, but was crippled. I had it when I was 14 (1942). I survived it, and later served in the military. (The upside is I haven’t had a headache since.)  My wife and I had a good friend that had infantile paralysis after adulthood.  She survived without much change in her life.  Many others were not so fortunate.

In 1953 Jonas Salk isolated the polio virus to develop a vaccine. It was stamped out by 1968.  Not once did the country shut down. It would be interesting to know how many people actually died from polio.

I think the problem we have today is all these weak-kneed, brain-dead, loud-mouth liberals spewing nonsense into the heads of the younger generations. Now we have “snow flakes” that melt at the least provocation.

WILD-EYED LIBERALS

My father lived to age 104.  He died in 2005.  I remember back in the Great Depression he often referred to, “Those wild-eyed liberals.” He often said, “They have evil eyes.”  After seeing Pelosi on TV today, and numerous  previous appearances of Ocasio-Cortez, Cory Booker, Adam Schiff, et al, I now know what he meant.  The eyes tell it all.

CHINA: FRIEND or FOE
China is not our friend.  They have the long-term goal to replace us as the world's number one premier nation.  Far too long (ever since Nixon) subsequent administrations have conceded  many powers (WTO, WHO, etc.)  to China in the expectation democracy would flourish and China would become one of the friendly adversaries on the world's political and economic scene.  Wrong. If nothing else Trump has caused China to expose what they actually are, a powerful communist dictator nation.  True to form they let little stand in their way.  They lie, cheat and steal. They manipulate the value of their currency to gain privileged exchange rates.  For years we encouraged them to embed students and professors in our academia. They invest heavily in some of our major industries.  They pay big bucks to lobbyists.  They contribute large sums to campaigns of influential politicians. They pay large sums out to certain of our high political leaders by covert means. This is all to place Chinese "agents" in every aspect of our society to influence favorable treatment thus be in positions to steal company trade secrets, patents, copyrights, cyber technology, intellectual property, etc.  They're in academia to influence the thinking of students all the while they lie, cheat and steal. The Wuhan Chinese virus pandemic is the most recent illustration of how they behave toward the rest of the world.
Whatever, if we are to survive as the America we've all come to know we better treat China as a hostile adversary. Regan brought about the demise of the powerful Soviet Union. Can Trump do the same to China?

GOVERNMENT ECONOMIC MEDDLING

Millions out of work.  Thousands of small businesses failing.  Sounds like The Great Depression of the 1930’s decade.  I know.  I’m old enough to remember it well.  President Roosevelt instigated numerous government programs as solutions.  A few were worthy.  Several failed miserably with severe implications for many.  Most were designed to instigate socialism. They served only to exacerbate the problems and extend the depression.  It was only rescued by war.

I get worried when the government begins to meddle with the economy on a large scale.  It never ends well.  It’s fraught with numerous instances of its failure down through the ages of mankind.  The actions of our government to deal with this Chinese (MOVID-19) virus smacks of socialism.  President Trump has succumbed to the perverse thinking of egg-head crystal ball gazers to make far reaching economic decisions based on computer modeling results derived from speculative data.  Garbage in, garbage out.  Not good.
