Hurricane Ida & Climate Change.
Hurricane Ida hammered Louisiana. It moved on to the Northeast with tornados and heavy rainfall causing extreme flash flooding. All with destruction and loss of life, some from drowning. New Jersey and New York City took the brunt of the storm which is unusual for that area. Louisiana pretty much took it in stride. Hurricanes are not new to them.
Certain New Jersey and New York politicians were quick to take to the air waves and blame it on climate change. Hurricanes are hurricanes and they do what hurricanes do. Ida was no different. The difference is not climate change. It is land use, concrete, and asphalt. Land in its natural state has a way to select natural waterway drainage. It’s when man changes the natural drainage course, builds concrete structures and lays down asphalt that drainage becomes a problem. Climate change has nothing to do with it. Hurricanes have been here a long long time. They will be here a long long time into the future. It’s foolhardy to think man can change hurricanes.
