Rick Perry - President?

Governor Rick Perry of Texas may well be the dark horse last out of the gate but first across the finish line. More and More I hear his name quietly whispered among the television political pundits. Perry has a stellar 10-year record as governor of the country's second largest state. He has managed an economy during the Obama recession second to none. The current jobless rate in Texas is 7.7% whereas it is 9.1% nation wide. The past year Texas has gained 254,200 jobs, more the past year than the other 49 states combined, and with 1,000 people a day moving to Texas. And, that does not include the illegal immigrants. In 2010 the Texas economy was $1.286 trillion, the 13th largest world wide just behind Russia, the 12th largest. As of April 2010 The Texas annual real economic growth rate was 3% whereas the national rate was 1.3%. Texas does not have an income tax. The legislature meets only once every two years and then for only 140 days (less time for mischief) unless called to a special session by the governor for specific legislation. The Texas Constitution requires the legislature pass a balanced 2-year budget each regular session.
A Perry-Palin ticket would be plausible. She served notably as the governor of Alaska, the largest state. She has an unsurpassed record of conservatism and financial stewardship of taxpayers money. A Perry-Palin ticket would excite conservatives, but frustrate the eastern Republican elites. Therein lies the biggest obstacle. The likes of Rove, Krauthammer, Crystal, Noonan, et al can never see their way to accept and support the likes of two "hicks" from the hinterland, Texas and Alaska. Perry is a graduate of Texas A&M and Palin graduated from the University of Idaho. They don't have that Harvard-Yale smell about them.

I don't about you all, but I've had it with our country being run by "super intellectuals" from Harvard and Yale. I'm ready for some leadership with everyday ordinary common sense.
