SSA Purchases .357 Ammo
The Social Security Administration is purchasing 174,000 rounds of .357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow point pistol ammunition. The SSA has 295 special agents that work in 66 offices across the United States. This isn't your ever day ordinary ammo. It makes a small hole going in and a big fist-size hole coming out. This is 590 rounds per agent. And, so why does the SSA need such armed agents. The SSA states:
“Our special agents need to be armed and trained appropriately. They not only investigate allegations of Social Security fraud, but they also are called to respond to threats against Social Security offices, employees, and customers.”
Is the fraud and threat to SSA so severe such security is necessary? If so, something is dreadfully wrong with the social security system. If the government arms its agents to protect employees and customers (we're customers?) then why isn't it just as practicable for ordinary citizens to arm themselves for protection?
