THE LITTLE BIG GUY - JOSE ALTUVE
Just finished watching the ALCS game #6 with Houston Astros playing the New York Yankees at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The score was tied 4 - 4 starting the bottom of the 9th inning. Astros had one on and 2 outs when Altuve (#27) came to bat. The count went to 3-2. Altuve hit the next pitch out of the ballpark to win 6 -4 for the Astros.
Several things are unusual about Altuve. First he is only 5 feet, 6 inches tall. I don’t know of another professional ball player that size. They all stand head to head and shoulders taller than Altuve. He plays 2nd base and turned a double play to end the Yankees rebound. His batting average for the game was .348. His lifetime batting average is .315. Few players ever achieve that. Overall, a remarkable 29-year old guy. His first words on post game TV was to thank God, his teammates, the Houston fans, and the organization (Jim Crane, owner). He was awarded MVP. As he accepted the trophy he said all the team were MVP’s.
You have to love the little big guy.
