CHECKS and BALANCES
We hear politicians incessantly speak of a system of checks and balances in our form of government.  It implies opposing sides will meet and come to a consensus for an equitable and fair solution of problems.  Far from it.  We have all checks and no balances.  The opposing view points are two-edge swords that cut and slash the opposition to make them ineffective and of little or no relevance.  You would think mature adult people could seek and find a common ground best for all.  Not so.  It’s all about crushing the opposition and the acquisition of power to impose a certain political agenda on the rest of us.
Mr. Smith!  Where art thou?  (For you youngsters the 1939 movie, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington with James Stewart and Jean Arthur, portrays an idealistic Mr. Smith who goes to Washington to take on the corrupt Congress.)
