Top 10 Threats of 2012
The following is taken from Newsmax.com, by Arnaud De Borchgrave:
"Thirty contingencies were sent to a wide selection of more than 300 government officials, policy analysts, academics and journalists for their confidential feedback.
These are the top 10 that directly threaten the U.S. homeland and are likely to trigger U.S. military involvement:
I just finished watching the latest Republican ABC debate in New Hampshire. The only item on this list addressed during the (so-called) debate was the Iranian nuclear crisis, and then only briefly. Security of the United States of America is the primary duty of any President, yet only one of these security contingencies was addressed by the monitors or the candidates. These are the top 10 that directly threaten the U.S. homeland and are likely to trigger U.S. military involvement:
- 1. A mass casualty attack on the U.S. homeland or on a treaty ally.
- 2. A severe North Korean crisis (e.g., armed provocations, internal political instability, advances in nuclear weaponry).
- 3. A major military incident with China involving U.S. or allied forces.
- 4. An Iranian nuclear crisis (e.g., surprise advances in nuclear weapons/delivery capability, Israeli response).
- 5. A highly disruptive cyber-attack on U.S. critical infrastructure (e.g., telecommunications, electrical power, pipeline output, transportation and emergency services. [My note: Think electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) attack.]
- 6. A significant increase in drug trafficking violence in Mexico that spills over into the United States.
- 7. Severe internal instability in Pakistan triggered by a civil-military crisis or terror attacks.
- 8. Political instability in Saudi Arabia that endangers global oil supplies.
- 9. A U.S.-Pakistan military confrontation, triggered by a terror attack or U.S. counter-terror.
- 10. Intensification of the European sovereign debt crisis that leads to the collapse of the euro, triggering a double-edged transatlantic crisis.
